Gibson Snakehead Mandolin Headstock

The snakehead headstock shape allows a straighter line for each string from the nut to its tuning post than is possible with a paddle shaped headstock. This shape makes it possible to move the tuning posts south toward the nut without  causing the strings to rub against the lower tuning posts.
